Councillor for the Mount Salem Division of the St. James Municipal Corporation, Kerry Thomas is commending Montego Bay’s Mayor, Councillor Homer Davis for his leadership in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the parish.
Councillor Thomas who is in his first term as a political representative, was speaking at the Labour Day Church Service held at the Faith temple Assembly of God Church on Princess Street in Montego Bay on Sunday May 24, 2020.
Before undertaking the event with which he was tasked at the service which was to read the Labour Day message from Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips, Councillor Thomas said he felt compelled to commend Mayor Davis for the astute leadership given so far in the fight to contain COVID-19 in the parish.
He said “I must say thank you to Councillor Mayor Homer Davis for the leadership which he has given the parish so far in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19”.
In commending Mayor Davis for his “first out of the box” response to get St. James prepared for the fight against COVID-19, Councillor Thomas said the decision to pull all stakeholders together at the onset, was a master stroke.
“I remember Mayor Davis pulling al, the agencies and stakeholders together very early to map and implement a strategy to fight the spread of COVID-19…That was a master stroke and one which was played a major role in ensuring that today (May 24, 2020), St. James only has eight recorded COVID-19 cases”, Councillor Thomas said.
Councillor Thomas said “St. James has been doing very well so far in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 and again that is due to the early actions of our Mayor and the support and cooperation which has been received from all citizens and stakeholders.”
